Website speed is part of the user experience

Performance isn't just a technical afterthought. It shapes how confidently people can use an interface.

Performance starts before code

Large images, complicated layouts, and excessive animation are often introduced during design. Planning for performance early avoids having to choose between speed and visual quality later.

What slow loading gets in the way of

Until an interface is ready, users cannot complete their tasks. This is particularly noticeable on mobile networks and mid-range devices. Loading should communicate progress rather than leaving a blank screen.

Check the basics

Start with appropriately sized images, static asset caching, fewer render-blocking scripts, and system fonts where appropriate. Test slow connections and modest hardware, too.

Measure real experience

Lab testing helps identify bottlenecks but cannot replace observing real usage. Test key pages and interactions after every meaningful change.

Faster does not mean less expressive

A thoughtful system can be expressive and fast at the same time. Good execution does not force aesthetics and usability to compete.
